Accidental damage

Most insurance companies offer cover against set perils such as flood, subsidence, fire etc. but if you want complete peace of mind, you need to consider paying an additional premium, to cover against accidental damage.

The extra premium is significant, particularly on contents, but is worth considering if:
• You have children or visits from grandchildren etc.
• Regularly entertain friends etc. (especially if they like red wine)
• Have pets
• Have expensive furniture, ornaments etc.
• Do regular DIY.

Remember
More accidents happen in the home than anywhere else. Give serious consideration to accidental damage. It may help you sleep better at night.

Comment
Some insurers include accidental damage as standard cover for buildings, contents or both eg:
• John Lewis (Greenbee) – Buildings and Contents
• AA – Buildings and Contents
• Liverpool Victoria – Buildings only.

NB:
When checking your policy, remember, it is just as important to look at what you are not covered for as well as what is insured.
