Before looking at prices for your Contents Insurance, add up how much money it would cost to replace all of your furnishings, electrical equipment, valuables etc.
Take time to list, and value them properly at today’s prices.
It is important to be reasonably accurate with the total amount, as Insurers will not be impressed if one of their claims assessors visits your home, if you have a claim, and says that you are under insured.
This could leave you exposed to having your claim refused or payment reduced.
What is covered?
• Normally, furnishings, valuables, frozen food, TV, stereo equipment, money, credit cards.
What perils are you covered against?
• Normally, fire, flood, storm, escape of water, theft, subsidence.
• For an additional premium you can cover against accidental damage.
There is an enormous variation on the cover given by Insurance Companies, always check that you have the appropriate policy, to suit your needs.
Remember
The insurance companies expect you to take reasonable precautions to minimise any Losses.
• Locking up your house properly.
• Not leaving bikes etc outside at night.
NB:
No two companies offer the same policy cover and there are always variations on what is covered and what you are covered against. It is vital to ensure that you have the cover that is suitable for you, your home and your belongings.
It is just as important to look at what you are not covered for as well as what is insured. |
