Insurance when travelling abroad.
If you have comprehensive insurance and wish to travel abroad in your car, it is important to contact your insurance company before travelling to notify them if you wish to extend your comprehensive cover whilst abroad.
Your policy will usually allow you to use your car to travel in member countries of the EEC. However this cover will often be the minimum cover required in whichever country you are visiting, normally equivalent to Third Party Only.
Therefore it is important to extend your comprehensive cover before travelling. The cost of the foreign travel varies from company to company, as shown below:
• E Car Insurance all year round free.
• Prudential up to 180 days free.
• Churchill up to 90 days free.
• Direct Line & E Sure first 3 days of any trip free.
• Admiral no free days.
If you want longer cover than that given as standard the company will charge you extra. This is an important consideration if you intend to travel abroad frequently on holiday or business. You must notify your insurer of any travel plans before travelling.
