Home emergency cover
This is a relatively new offering from insurance companies. It is usually offered as an additional extra, but can be bought separately, with Norwich Union (expensive).
It is intended to give peace of mind regarding problem areas like electrics, plumbing etc. which are not covered by your home insurance. If you have a problem with your power supply or water supply etc. you can call on an expert, within a guaranteed time and he will fix the problem, if possible.
There are time limits involved and a small excess normally, but at the right price, particularly for the none DIY experts, this is an excellent idea, as finding a plumber or electrician, at short notice, is difficult enough, let alone paying his bill.
Another plus is that the Insurers will tend to use quality tradesmen.
This is particularly useful for:
• Women living alone or the partner working away etc.
• Disabled and elderly.
• People with busy lifestyle.

At the right price this product is a must for many people. E Sure is particularly good value as are AA Insurance, Hiscox and John Lewis (Greenbee) where home emergency cover is included free.
