Lower tariff phone numbers

Most insurance companies give freephone 0800 type number for their sales department, obviously to try and attract new quotes. Once they have your business, with very odd exceptions, they make you call them on a high tariff number such as 0870, if you need to make a change to your insurance policy ie. change of car, address, drivers, etc.

It has become very obvious that the 0800 numbers are answered much quicker than the 0870 numbers – the insurance companies get a kick back from the phone provider on these numbers – you can very often be hanging on for several minutes at a time on the 0870 numbers and once you have told the insurer about the change on your policy they have the nerve to try and sell you legal protection, breakdown cover, etc. whilst you are already giving them money from the high tariff phone number.
