Use of your car
Social, Commuting & Business.
When insuring your car, your insurance company will ask for what purposes you intend to use your car:
Social Use
This is normal everyday use such as shopping, visiting friends etc. excluding commuting (travelling to & from one place of work) and, excluding any type of business use.
Social Use and Commuting
This includes social use as above and travelling to and from one place of work.
Use in connection with your occupation
This includes both of the above uses and using your car in connection with your employment.
Companies normally giving use in connection with your occupation as standard:
• Direct Line.
• E Sure.
• Prudential.
Social and Commuting as standard (business use costs more):
• Churchill.
• Screentrade.
• Quinn Direct.
Social only (additional use costs more):
• Admiral.
• Hastings.
NB
Certain occupations are often restricted to Social use only i.e.
• Cab drivers.
• Diplomatic service.
• Drivers
• Fashion industry.
• Foreign service.
• Entertainment industry
• General dealers.
• Housewife/husband.
• Market traders
• Motor trade.
• Professional sports.
• Retired
• Scrap or salvage.
• Students.
• Unemployed.
Comments
If you do not use your car for commuting or business check the companies that give social use only as standard. This may save you money.
Social, domestic and pleasure use occasionally includes commutting i.e. Privilege and Quinn Direct. But with some insurers commuting is excluded i.e. Admiral Group. Be very careful to check your policy before travelling to work in your car. |
